The SDCA plays an integral part in AgriScot which annually displays a multi dairy breed show claimed by many as the highest standard of dairy stock in the UK with prize money of over £18,000.
We work closely with the Scottish Government and support their efforts to eliminate diseases such as FMD, BVD, Johnes and Bluetongue all of which can have a debilitating effect on both animal welfare and dairy farm profits.
To encourage the practical education of the younger farmer and with the cooperation of several leading genetic companies training in the understanding and use of genetic indices is promoted with the highest placed persons being awarded an overseas study visit to any country in the world to take part in bull mother selection and progeny inspection.
Milk recording and the resultant benefits of nutrition, management feed back, improved animal welfare are heavily promoted to improve farm incomes. Over 70% of all dairy cows in Scotland are now milk recorded.
The SDCA is a voluntary organisation with charity status and represents the interests of every dairy farmer in Scotland maintaining an up to date data base of individual farms and cows.
